Hot Melt Extruder
Hot-melt extrusion is a continuous process that uses a co-rotating twin-screw extrusion system to evenly disperse the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) within a polymer-based carrier. It is a pioneering manufacturing technology in the pharmaceutical industry. Hot-melt extrusion equipment includes precise feeders, twin-screw extruders, cooling rollers, conveyor belts, and pelletizers. The equipment can also be used for twin-screw continuous wet granulation.
- Integrated design, small footprint.
- Effectively improve the solubility of poorly soluble drugs.
- Can be used for controlled-release or retarded-release formulations.
- FDA encourages continuous processes, easy to scale up.
- Process parameters (such as temperature and speed) can be stored and exported for analysis.

The main applications of hot-melt extrusion in the pharmaceutical industry include improving drug solubility and bioavailability, preparing controlled-release or delayed-release formulations, preparing targeted release formulations, non-oral reservoirs and local drug delivery systems, masking the unpleasant taste of APIs, and continuous wet granulation.
